JURASSIC PARK Conflicts

By: Irma Aqil and Ruth Aune

1* Dr. Hammond looses control of his experiment.
2* Dr. Sattler tries to turn the electric fences back on but is attacked by raptors which delays their safety.
3* 3 different wars: Man vs. Technology vs. Nature
4* The scientists would put their lives on the line for the children's saftey, which caused the dinosaurs to chase them even more.

MICHAEL CRICHTON Summary

By: Irma Aqil

Michael Crichton was born in Chicago, 1942 and raised on Long Island. At a very young age of fourteen, he sold and wrote articles for "The New York Times" section. He earned a Bachelors Degree and majored in anthropology at Harvard University. Crichton married and divorced twice in his life time and had children (we are unaware of how many.)
Crichton's novels and stories were mostly focused on technological themes. Jurassic Park was Crichton's top-seller as well as one of the best seller's of the year 1990. The story, as Crichton enjoys writing, is based on greed and technology. The only other mixture in this book, happened to be the exact opposite of technology, the jurassic period.
JURASSC PARK "wow" Sentences

By: Ruth Aune

1* The way Crichton writes in great detail about the dinosaurs is extremely fascinating! He uses metaphors such as, " skyscrapers ment nothing anymore," really emphasizes the dinosaur's size.
2* Irma and I really enjoyed Ian's sense of humor. " Dorothy, I have a feeling we aren't in Kansas anymore." He says this when the T-Rex is chasing them in the car.
3* When Crichton uses different ways to show the people screaming, it brings the book to life. Such as, "All she could do was run; run and scream in terror fearing for her life."

This is Dash. He is a Blue Damselfish. Dash and Damsel,(not shown in this picture) represent the herbivore dinosaurs in Jurrasic Park. They do not torment Oz, but are sometimes chased around by Maui and Jester. Dash is a fun fish to look at, so are herbivore dinosaurs, according to Dr. Sattler.

These two are Maui and Jester. They are Pacific Clownfish. Even though they look absolutely adorable (and they are!) they are also somewhat territorail and pick on Oz (remember, the human.) These guys will represent the T-Rex and the velociraptor in this story. They look interesting, but they can be mean. (I still love them)

This is Oz. He's an Emerald Crab and he is going to play the roll of our "human" in Jurassic Park. Oz thinks that because he has sharp pinchers, he's in control. This is not true! Oz get's pushed around quite frequently by the other fish (who will represent dinosaurs) and even though he acts though, he is VERY small. (We're talking the size of a quarter!)

JURASSIC PARK Dialog

By: Ruth Aune

Dr. Alan: "Alright, now that we're inside I can ask you. What the Hell were you thinking!?"
Hammond: "What do you mean what was I thinking? Bringing dinosaurs to life was genius!"
Dr. Alan: "We all almost died you inconsiderate 'genius'!"
Ian: "How come you don't have second fences or something?! That would have been a 'genius' idea. Or even putting the power in the main building in case of an emergency! Or bigger guns! OR FOR GOD'S SAKE SOMETHING!"
Hammond: "Well how was I supposed to know that this could have happened?"
Dr. Alan: "Anything's possible. Including the fact that you said all your dinosaurs were females. Correct?"
Hammond: "Well yes."
Dr. Alan: "Well, they're nesting. How is that so?"
Hammond: "Impossible! That can't be!"
Dr. Sattler: "I don't know, but your dinosaurs are also getting sick, and not from anything they're eating or drinking. I think it may be that their bodies are adapted to a different climate. Since the dinosaurs first went extinct, the climate of our earth has changed dramatically."
Ian: "Wait a minute, backup. If these things are breeding, can't your pteradon's get off the island?"
Hammond: "Well most certainly, but they are within an electric avery and are most likely to die if what Dr. Sattler said is true. My poor creatures!"
Timmy: "Unless they had already gotten out before you guys turned the fences back on."
Dr. Alan: "And now what?"
Hammond: "What do you mean 'now what?'"
Dr. Alan: "I mean if someone else discover's this island and they find dead dinosaurs about the place and not fully decomposed?!"
Ian: "Or worse, live ones."
Dr. Sattler: "How many dinosaurs did you have approximately?"
Hammond: "Oh I don't know, I suppose about 437."
Dr. Sattler: "And if they're reproducing, we very well could have the next cretatious period."
Ian: "And none of these consiquences occured to you while your 'genius' mind was ticking away?!"
Hammond: "Don't you realize what I have done!? I've brought dinosaurs to life! I've changed history! I've changed science! I've changed mankind as we know it! And yes, I am quite sure my calculations were correct!"
Ian: "Oh stop acting like a hero when what you really are is a murderer! Look at your grandchildren! They almost died because of you!"
Dr. Sattler: " As long as we're here now is what counts."
Lex: " Oh my gosh, dinosaur!"
JURASSIC PARK SYMOLISM

By Ruth Aune and Irma Aqil

1* The death of the volunteer in the beginning was forshadow of more deaths throughout the book.
2* The way Michael Crichton describes the herbavores shows that not all dinosaurs are dangerous, but some can be gental giants.
3* When Dr. Alan saved Timmy, it definatley showed that even though he said he didn't like kids, he cared for them very much.
4* When the little dinosaur kills the bad guy, , you know that something good has to come out of the end.
5* Throughout the book, the archaeologists panic and no one knows what to do. To us this shows that even though archaeologists study dinosaurs, they can't control them and still don't know their exact behavior.
6* Ian has a sense of humor and sarcasm all throughout the book. To us, this shows forshadowing also that in the end people will be ok and escape.

Scary Setting

JURASSIC PARK SETTINGS

By: Irma Aqil

1* Modern day setting helped understand the book better.
2* It was on an island.
3* Supposedly "prehistoric", yet modern.
4* The computer technology on the island really contrasted the cretatious dinosaurs.
5* Surrounded by the ocean so as the dinosaurs were not to escape.
6* Starts out with bad weather so it foreshadows the horrific future.
7* The climate changes according to the scenes.
8* Hammond wanted to create a family theme park, but it was actually a nightmare.
9* So scientific, it almost seemed futuristic even though it's supposed to bring out the Jurassic Period.
10* The guns they used seemed old fasioned. (Who shoots a 40 foot T-Rex with a rifle?!)
11* I think that it tookplace in the 1990's because if it would have taken place in the new millenium, there would be far more security.
JURASSIC PARK POEM

By: Ruth Aune

Hammond has run out of luck
His dinosaurs have run amok

They're building some nests
And eating some guests

At this rate he won't make a buck.

It's a book guaranteed to frighten
When you read it your muscles will tighten

The raptors are bunching
The T-Rex is munching

Dolphins

This picture is of dolphins playing freely and doing what they wish with no rules to follow. They have complete freedom. In THE ANTHEM, Equality had no freedom and too many rules to abide by. He comes to realize that he shouldn't have to follow these rules and that he wants freedom, so he goes and gets freedom, and in a way is like a dolphin.

This picture shows how beautiful our world is and all we need to do is stop and take the time to realize it. In SCHINDLER'S LIST, Schindler is all about money and himself as are most peop-le in this world, but he turns to realize what wrong in the world is being done and does what he can to help.
